SOAP Why soap? I first began making soap for our personal use in 1993. I began giving it as gifts to members of our family and friends and they all encouraged me to offer it to the public. It has only been recently that I have had the time I feel you deserve to devote to making it available. What things do you use in your Handcrafted soap? All of the fats and oils that I use are food grade. The colors in my soaps are natural oxides, micas, or FDC approved and the fragrances are cosmetic grade. How do you test your products? Before each batch is offered to the public I use it myself and test it on these guys:
Captain Jeff Painter Skipper F/V Evening Star
Captain Blake Painter Skipper F/V Tradition Believe me, if they didn't like it I would be the first to know! Can I come to your shop and watch you make soap? Unfortunately, insurance regulations do not allow me to do tours. Do you mail out free samples? Due to the overwhelming number of requests, I am not able to send out free samples of my products. What is the best way to store my soap? To help your soap bar last a long time, keep it in "dry dock" in between uses. In other words, keep it from sitting in water- a draining soap dish works best. Also, keep it out of a direct stream of water such as the shower. My soap bars are formulated to produce a nice hard, long lasting bar that produces a very thick and creamy lather. The soap I received isn't exactly like the one in the picture. Because I cut and wrap each bar by hand, sometimes my cuts aren't quite perfectly straight. Each of the Artistic soaps will be a tiny bit different as well. Each computer browser may show color a little differently. My
color patterns and designs will vary slightly from one bar or batch to
another. When the saponification process has been completed and all of the ingredients turned into soap, there is NO sodium hydroxide (lye) left. A correctly formulated bar will be just what it is - soap. All ingredients for each of my products are listed, please take a moment and read them carefully. These products do contain fragrance oils, pigments and colorants and some people may experience sensitivity to certain ingredients. As with any product, we recommend testing the product on a small portion of skin. If redness or irritation results, discontinue use. Avoid contact with the eyes. Keep out of the reach of small children. JEWELRY Why the eyeglass leashes or chains? As I advanced in age I found my near vision was deteriorating. This demanded that I have, continuously at hand, my reading glasses. At the same time, my sister had been losing sunglasses right and left. Well, I got tired of not being able to find them, sis got tired of buying new sunglasses and I went searching for chains or leashes that would keep them with us. This proved to be an exercise in futility as what was offered was for the most part totally unsuitable. The leashes were either poorly constructed, homely or usually both. And the other jewelry lines? Some of these are just the artistic outgrowth of the leashes, others are from my years involved in textiles and design. We have a small farm with sheep which provide me with wool to spin, weave and hook rugs with. What about the sterling silver line? Loving both the Nautical and Nature, when I had the chance to offer these to you, I just could not resist. And YES - I wear all of my line! Help! I managed to break my treasure, what can I do? While you will find my treasures to be very sturdy, I know that real life happens. Gather up all of the components and contact me with the details, include a picture if you can, and I will see what I can do for you.
